Non-alcoholic (NA) and zero-proof are transforming the beverage industry.

According to research firm Nielsen, non-alcoholic beer, wine, and spirits spiked at 31% in 2023, amounting to roughly $510 million in sales. Once a niche market only for the sober, the alcohol-free beverage industry is now a booming sector with a remarkable growth trajectory and research shows that even drinkers of alcohol are partaking in non-alcoholic options. Grand View Research reports that globally, the market for alcohol-free beer, wine, and spirits is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.6% from 2021 to 2027, reaching a valuation of $30 billion by the end of the forecast period.

The boom is driven by several factors, including increasing health and wellness, and shifts in social norms. A significant portion of NA consumers, particularly Millennials and Gen Z, are gravitating toward adult and artisanal alcohol-free options that allow them to still enjoy the social aspects of drinking. Moreover, the sober curious movement, which encourages individuals to experiment with reducing or eliminating alcohol intake, has gained considerable traction, driving demand beyond the previous range of mediocre non-alcoholic beers, boring sparkling water, and overly sweet sodas.

At Alcohol Professor we’ve taken a keen interest in these developments. We’ve covered mixers and NA drinks and are now taking a closer look at the latest and greatest NA options including new offerings from the biggest and smallest craft brands on the market.
