Comforting Cocktails - the Fetal Position
A friend of mine once said, "The fetal position is very underrated."
What he meant by that statement is some days, when life becomes overwhelming, the only thing that feels comforting is to curl up and shut everything out for a spell.
The halls are decked. We've donned gay apparel. But even the holiday cheeriest person can feel pressured this time of year.
It's important to take a breath and let the world spin on its own tinsel-strewn axis for a while.
We all deserve a cocktail break!
Here's your comfort in a glass - the Fetal Position:
1.5 oz (44 ml) Rye, such as Redemption Barrel Proof .5 oz (15 ml) Jack From Brooklyn Sorel hibiscus liqueur .5 oz (15 ml) Calvados or other apple brandy, such as Boulard Pays d'Auge V.S.O.P. .5 oz (15 ml) Lemon juice Bar spoon good maple syrup 1 egg white Deep, delicious bitters, such as Bittered Sling Shanghai Rhubarb Cocktail cherry (optional, but you know you want them)
Combine first six ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake well to combine. Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass. Add a few drops of the bitters and swirl with a toothpick. Add the cherries. Yeah. Just let 'em sink to the bottom along with your hopes and dreams. (Kidding.)
You'll feel better in a minute. Ready to conquer the world again! Cheers!
