6 of the Most Creative Drinks from Disney Wish That You Can Make at Home

Think Disney Cruise Line is mainly for kids? With the recent launch of the Disney Wish, Disney seems to be saying, think again. Bars are everywhere and, unlike their previous ships, they’re not relegated to just one area. With no less than 11 bars and lounges, plus theaters, dining rooms, and other nooks and crannies where one can order up an adult beverage, opportunities to taste some of their creative concoctions abound. Creative cocktail offerings match the bar themes and there’s no sacrifice in quality ingredients.

Monkey Spritzer

Monkey Spritzer

This mix of fruit juice, fruit-flavored liqueur, and fresh fruit gives layers to this refreshing drink. And while some say you shouldn’t waste a quality spirit in a mixed drink, others agree that quality ingredients ensure a superior final product. Whichever gin you choose, this is a great drink to enjoy while watching the sunset after a day at the beach.

Served at The Rose

1.5 oz. Monkey 47 gin

½ oz. Cointreau Blood Orange

1 oz. white cranberry juice

½ oz. lemon juice

Evian Sparkling Lime & Ginger

Raspberries

Blackberries

wild hibiscus in syrup

Place Monkey 47, Cointreau Blood Orange, white cranberry juice, and lemon juice along with ice into a shaker. Shake until well combined and chilled. Strain into a red wine glass and add Evian Sparkling Lime and Ginger, raspberries, and blackberries to taste. Add one wild hibiscus in syrup, and stir.

Note: If using regular sparkling water add a dash more lemon or lime juice and an ½-inch slice of ginger or a couple of tablespoons of ginger ale.

Hurricane

Hurricane

While it might feel wrong to bring up the subject of a hurricane on a cruise ship, this signature French Quarter drink fits right in at the Louisiana-themed onboard bar, The Bayou. While the traditional Hurricane is made with a combination of two types of rum, there’s no need when using Bayou Reserve as, due to its solera aging method, the rum is complex enough on its own. This is a drink both a princess and a frog would be proud of.

Served at The Bayou

3 oz. Bayou Reserve

½ oz. lime juice

2 oz. passion fruit juice

1 oz. fresh orange juice

Dash grenadine

Combine all ingredients, along with ice, in a cocktail shaker and shake until well chilled. Pour into a hurricane glass. Drink up! Maybe have another.

Brew and Sand

Brew and Sand

When looking at the list of ingredients, one might be dubious. I mean, c’mon, coffee combined with cherry and orange liquor? But go ahead and try it and you’ll be struck by how, though you can taste each ingredient, they complement each other so well. It’s like a funky fashion ensemble that only the best designer could make work.

Served at Cove Café

2 oz. cold brew coffee

1.5 oz. Monkey Shoulder

½ oz. Luxardo Cherry liquor

½ oz. Blood Orange Cointreau

1.5 oz. soda or sparkling water

Combine the first four ingredients in a shaker until well combined. Pour into a highball glass over ice. Add soda or sparkling water.

The Rose

The Rose

The joy of this drink is multi-dimensional, spread throughout the color, nose, and taste. Somewhere between ruby and salmon-colored, the soft, fruity scent, gives a hint to the delicate taste, even with three types of alcohol. The subtle dark cherry flavor in the Komos Reposado Rosa, the soft citrus of the Grand Marnier Cuvee Louis Alexandre, and the floral bubbles of the Perrier-Jouët Rosé ensure that a rose by any other name would definitely not smell (or taste) as sweet.

Served at The Rose

1 ½ oz.  Komos Reposado Rosa

½ oz. Grand Marnier Cuvee Louis Alexandre

4 oz Perrier-Jouët Rose

1 wild hibiscus in syrup

In a shaker with ice, add the Komos Reposado and the Grand Marnier Cuvée. Shake well and strain into a wine glass. Add one wild hibiscus in syrup, and slowly top up with Perrier-Jouët champagne.

Skall Sangria

Skall Sangria

Who says sangria must be made with wine? Why not wine and beer? Why not wine, beer, and ale? Choose the alcohol carefully and add fruit and you’ve got a unique sangria that even beer lovers might enjoy.

Keg & Compass

3 oz. Lindeman’s Framboise

1 oz. Lillet Rosé

3 oz. ale

fresh or frozen raspberries

1 strawberry for garnish

In a glass with ice, add the Lindeman’s Framboise, the Lillet Rosé, and ale. Stir and decorate with fresh or frozen raspberries inside and a fresh strawberry on the glass rim.

Temple Twist

Temple Twist

As the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge is open in the daytime for people of any age to enjoy, besides their unique adult beverages (have you heard about their $5,000 cocktail?), they also serve up some creative non-alcoholic mixes. As is true with their alcoholic drinks, you might be surprised at how some flavors you would never think of combining, complement each other like two of the most-polite people admiring each other’s shoes.

Served at Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge

½ fresh kiwi

½ oz 1883 Green Apple syrup

½ oz Monin Peppermint syrup

3 oz ginger beer

bursting pearl green apple

2 pineapple leaves for garnish

Muddle the ½ kiwi in a glass. Add the syrups and ice. Top up with ginger beer and stir. Garnish with 2 pineapple leaves and some bursting green apple pearls.

I thought this might be a good place to link back to the other story about drinks around the ship in case that's something you like to do.
